The Timeless Charm of Oreo Cookies

An-Irresistibly-Easy-Homemade-Oreo-Ice-Cream-Recipe-image-1-singular-oreo-cookie-white-background-frosted-fusionsDespite the recent surge in popularity of Oreo ice cream, Oreos, these iconic treats, have been satisfying sweet cravings for over a century. Originally introduced in 1912 by the National Biscuit Company (now Nabisco), Oreos have become a beloved staple in snack aisles worldwide.

With their unmistakable combination of crisp chocolate cookies and creamy vanilla filling, Oreos offer a nostalgic indulgence that transcends generations. Whether dunked in milk, crushed atop sundaes, or simply savoured on their own, these cookies hold a special place in the hearts and taste buds of many.

While the concept of Oreo ice cream might seem like a modern invention, its roots trace back to the innovative spirit of dessert enthusiasts seeking to elevate the classic cookie experience. By blending the rich flavours of Oreo cookies with creamy ice cream, a delectable new treat has emerged, offering a delightful twist on a beloved favourite.

The Perfect Match: Oreos and Ice Cream

The success of pairing Oreos and Ice cream lies in the harmonious blend of creamy and crunchy elements. The velvety smoothness of ice cream provides a perfect base, while the crispiness of Oreo cookies adds a satisfying crunch. Together, they form a dynamic taste and textural sensation.

Oreos and ice cream boast flavours that marry seamlessly. The rich cocoa notes of the cookies complement the creamy sweetness of the ice cream, resulting in a delicious fusion.

Moreover, the versatility of this combination is limitless. Whether incorporated into a decadent ice cream base, sprinkled as a topping, or sandwiched between layers of frozen goodness, Oreos add a playful twist to traditional ice cream creations.

No Churn – What’s Gives?

Ice cream holds a special place in all of our hearts, and with the addition of Oreo Cookies and the simplicity of this no-churn recipe, this homemade treat becomes even more irresistible.

With just three ingredients – cream, condensed milk, and Oreos – this recipe couldn’t be simpler, and being that it’s no-churn, it’s much easier and faster to make, so you’ll be scoffing it, ahem sorry, we mean enjoying it in no time at all.

When it comes to traditional ice cream making, crafting a custard base is the norm. While I still enjoy that process and use it often in many recipes, the convenience of no-churn ice creams is unbeatable.

The beauty of no-churn ice cream lies in its simplicity. You can even skip the ice cream maker and still achieve fantastic results. No need for mixing every few hours – simply whip up the mixture, freeze it until solid, and voila!

So let us share with you our easy no-churn recipe and method.

Easy No-Churn Homemade Oreo Ice Cream Recipe

An-Irresistibly-Easy-Homemade-Oreo-Ice-Cream-Recipe-image-3-bowl-of-ice-cream-with-oreo-cookies-being-mixed-in-with-whisk-frosted-fusionsIngredients:

  • 600ml double cream
  • 1 can (397g) sweetened condensed milk
  • 150g Oreo cookies (about 12 cookies), crushed into small pieces

Method:

  • In a large mixing bowl, whip the double cream until it forms stiff peaks.
  • Gently fold in the sweetened condensed milk until fully combined. The condensed milk adds sweetness, so no additional sugar is required.
  • Add the crushed Oreo cookies to the mixture and fold them in until evenly distributed.
    • To crush your cookies, you can use a food processor, or you can place them in a plastic bag and use a rolling pin to crush them
  • Pour the mixture into a loaf tin or airtight container, spreading it out evenly.
  • Additional Tip (Optional): Sprinkle some extra crushed Oreos on top for added decoration and texture.
  • Cover the tin or container with cling film or a lid and place it in the freezer.
  • Allow the ice cream to freeze for at least 6 hours, or preferably overnight, until firm.
  • Once frozen, scoop the delicious homemade Oreo ice cream into bowls or cones, and enjoy. It’s as simple as that!

This no-churn method creates a creamy and indulgent ice cream without the need for an ice cream maker. It’s perfect for satisfying those Oreo cravings on hot summer days or any time you need a sweet treat!

While the no-churn method may result in a firmer texture initially, just give it a few minutes at room temperature before scooping for a creamy consistency.

NB: You can use any Oreo flavour you desire – whether it’s classic, mint, or strawberry cheesecake. Oreos add the perfect touch, but of course, feel free to experiment with other biscuits too.

Very good to hear that the step-by-step instructions are super clear to follow. That’s what it’s all about for us, sharing our love for ice cream and making it accessible to all.

Allowing the ice cream to sit for a while doesn’t change the texture per se, simply that it allows it to soften a tad, prior to serving. Our article – Rock Solid Solutions: Why Is My Homemade Ice Cream So Hard? – delves into these more. explaining the problem of super hard ice cream, and offering tips on how you can address this, allowing the ice cream to sit for a few minutes is one of those tips. Though I fully understand that it can be ‘hard’ (boom boom) to wait.

Alternative mix-ins? Absolutely, there are so many mix-ins you could try.

Chocolate Chip Cookies: Classic chocolate chip cookies add a textural crunch and bursts of chocolatey deliciousness.

Peanut Butter Cups: Chopped peanut butter cups add a creamy, nutty flavour and a satisfying crunch.

Chopped Nuts: Whether it’s almonds, pecans, walnuts, or peanuts, chopped nuts add a satisfying crunch and a boost of protein.

Or one of our favourites – Cookie Dough: Chunks of edible cookie dough (without raw eggs) add a fun and nostalgic twist. Check out our article – Easy Homemade Cookie Dough Ice Cream Recipe – for full details on how to make this delicious favourite.

There are endless mix-ins you can try, these are just a few options.

Hoping these ideas have given you some inspiration!
