The Season of Endless Scoopable Possibilities
“🎶 Summertime… and the livin’ is easy…” – Billie Holiday – Can you believe that song was released in 1936! Insane… Yet it’s still such a familiar summertime tune!
Love this song, with Billie Holiday’s soulful tone and, of course, the summertime sentiment.
And never has that felt more true than when there’s a bowl of cold, creamy homemade ice cream in hand and the sun on your skin.
As someone who lives and breathes ice cream year-round, I’ll admit something: summer is a favourite season. Not just for the sunshine, but because it’s when ice cream steps into the spotlight and becomes the star of the table — whether it’s beach-day tubs, garden party sundaes, or just a scoop on the sofa while the windows are open.
So now is the time to get prepped, plan your flavour line-up, dust off your ice cream maker (or order one!), and make sure your freezer is primed for action.
And yes, if you don’t have an ice cream maker, don’t worry — we’ve got you covered with effortless no-churn options too.
Why Ice Cream and Summer Are the Perfect Pairing
There’s something timeless about summer and ice cream. As the days stretch longer and the temperatures climb, the craving for something cool and refreshing becomes irresistible.
But it’s more than just a heat fix — ice cream becomes a mood. It’s about moments shared: cones melting too fast in the sun, kids chasing sprinkles across the garden, and adults rediscovering their sweet tooth.
Homemade ice cream lets you capture those moments with flair — experimenting with seasonal fruits, family-favourite flavours, and better-for-you alternatives that suit everyone at the table.
Don’t Have an Ice Cream Maker Yet? Now’s the Time
If you’ve been flirting with the idea of getting an ice cream maker, now is the moment.
As summer stock hits the shelves, the best ice cream makers sell fast. Whether you’re looking for a classic churner, a compressor-style machine for professional-quality scoops, or a budget-friendly freeze-bowl model, there’s something for every kitchen.

Easy No-Churn Strawberries & Cream Ice Cream Recipe
Nothing says “British summer” quite like strawberries and cream — it’s Wimbledon in a bowl.
This easy no-churn recipe captures the flavour of sun-ripened berries in a silky, homemade scoop you can whip up in minutes (and no fancy kit required!).
(Prep Time: 15 minutes (plus 10 minutes berry maceration), Freeze Time: 4–6 hours)
Ingredients: (Serves: 6–8)
- 300ml double cream
- 200g sweetened condensed milk
- 200g fresh strawberries, hulled
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice (to brighten the berries)
- 1 tbsp icing sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)
Method:
- Prep the berries – Chop the strawberries and mash roughly with a fork. Stir in lemon juice and icing sugar. Set aside for 10 mins to let the flavours bloom.
- Whip the cream – In a mixing bowl, whip the double cream until it forms soft peaks.
- Fold in the condensed milk and vanilla extract, being gentle to keep the air in.
- Swirl in the strawberries – Fold the mashed strawberries through the cream mixture, leaving a few streaks for that ripple effect.
- Freeze – Pour into a freezer-safe tub, cover, and freeze for at least 4–6 hours, or overnight for best results.

My grandma made homemade ice cream and it was the best I ever had. Tasted unlike anything else I ever had as far as frozen goods go, next to icees of course, but this is a good recipe I would definitely consider making myself. I usually make stir fry and related meals but I just might have to try making something frozen and homemade. I was a combat sport athlete so finding healthy treats that’s balanced with a good taste is like striking gold. Thanks for sharing!

I’m so glad this recipe caught your eye, even coming from your usual stir-fry zone! And as a former combat sport athlete, it’s fantastic to hear you’re on the lookout for healthier treats that still satisfy.
